Brunswick Gardens

This terrace of grand Georgian properties in Kensington form an important conservation area in the heart of Old Church Street.

Done as a development, the aim was to modernise the house and add as much floor area as possible. The first phase was to increase the size of the house by creating and additional 1200sq/ft basement, by using a series of floor lights and courtyards, the subterranean spaces are bright and roomy, giving a sense of generosity and most importantly the sensation one could actually be above ground.

The rear of the house was opened up with the layouts modernised. The ground floor retained all traditional elements, such as herringbone floors, cornice and skirting which were balanced against the modernisation of the rest of the property.
