This was a featureless house set in Kensington on a street with a number of listed buildings and beautifully detailed period properties.

Done as a development, the aim was to give the house a sense of grandeur and add back the details that had been lost over the years in a period style befitting of the location. The first phase was to increase the size of the house by creating and additional 1100sq/ft basement, by using a series of floor lights and courtyards, the subterranean spaces are bright and roomy, giving a sense of generosity and most importantly the sensation one could actually be above ground.

The rear of the house was opened up onto a beautifully designed Courtyard done by Nigel Gomme of Cityscapers, the green walls and use of natural materials such as slate and slatted cedar walls climbed over with evergreen jasmine add a dimension of tranquillity and truly make the court yard and extension of the internal space.

The raised ground floor and façade were traditionally designed so as to give the building a sense of it surrounding and time period, dentil cornicing and plaster mouldings were added with new sash windows and traditional architraves internal and eternal. A centrepiece fireplace flanked with traditional oak joinery and aligned panelled sliding doors, open up the entrance hall and give a grand feeling to the house.

Custom stone works from laser milled shower trays to bespoke stone bathtubs and steam rooms add luxury to the property, the roof extension adds further bedrooms, making the property 6bed and sizeable enough for a family of 5 with maids quarters. The finished article was a greatly increased in size property that set a record for the price per square foot on the street.
